Position Summary | This position is responsible for providing day-to-day leadership and the delivery of service to international students in the International Student Welcoming Center. Managing a team of student employees, this position coordinates a one-stop-shop for information for international students pursuing degree programs at CMU. Under the direction of the Executive Director of International and Graduate Admissions, the coordinator will ensure relevant information is readily available to students and delivered with a high degree of accuracy and excellent customer service. The coordinator will also assist with other aspects of international student recruitment and onboarding such as international student orientation, check-in, and issuing or updating 1-20s. |
Required Qualifications | Bachelor’s degree. One year experience advising international students at the higher education level. US citizenship or Permanent Residency required per Department of Homeland Security regulations. Demonstrated ability to learn and apply modern technology and software to position requirements. Demonstrated organizational and communication skills, both written and verbal, particularly in a cross-cultural environment. Familiarity with F-1 immigration regulations. Ability to work in a busy, cross-cultural setting maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. |
Preferred Qualifications | Master’s degree in International Education, Educational Leadership, Student Affairs, or related field. Two years’ experience as an international student advisor and working with SEVIS. Competency in a foreign language. Experience creating and delivering orientation programs or related academic programming at the university level. Experience working with Terra Dotta or other batch related immigration softwar |
Duties & Responsibilities | Responsible for the coordination and delivery of services to international students in the International Student Welcome Center and other areas of the university as needed. Hires, trains, and supervises student employees to assist CMU international students with questions they may have about CMU, our processes, policies, and procedures; assists with helping them find services in the Mount Pleasant area. Develops and maintains a virtual (website) and physical presence that is student focused and is known for a high degree of accuracy, customer service and support to the international student community. Develops, in collaboration with others, a communication and promotion plan to ensure students and the campus are aware of the services offered in the International Student Welcome Center. Collaborates with other campus employees and members of the Mount Pleasant community in the pursuit of these duties. Assists with the planning and implementation of check-in, orientation and other helpful and informational programs for international student onboarding and life at CMU and in Mount Pleasant Delivers face-to-face and online services to international students. Assists with issuing and updating I-20s and other documents that are related to international student status. Identifies emerging student issues and communicates them to the supervisor, anticipates how the university may best serve students. Functions as part of a team to support and serve international students at CMU. |
