Position Title HVACR & CONTROLS TECHNICIAN
Position Summary Performs skilled work in the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) systems in addition to HVACR controls and energy management systems.
Required Qualifications Education equivalent to completion of an Associate’s Degree in HVAC or a combination of education and experience that equates to two years in HVACR.
Two years of HVACR experience.
Possession of Type II or IV Refrigerant Handling Technician Certification.
Possession of a valid driver’s license.
Ability to obtain a cooling tower treatment, category 5B pesticide applicator certification within one year of employment.
Working knowledge of HVACR controls and the ability to install/adjust digital and pneumatic control circuits.
Working knowledge of computer controllers and related equipment.
Ability to work from blueprints, diagrams, and schematics.
Demonstrated ability to follow and/or interpret oral and written directions.
Demonstrated positive interpersonal skills.
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively and project a positive image.
Ability to perform the essential functions and requirements of the job.
Ability to respond as needed for after hours or weekend HVAC and controls problems.
Ability to work independently and in a team environment and to provide a high level of service excellence to campus customers.

Preferred Qualifications  
Duties & Responsibilities Aids in the evaluation of existing facility control system operations and maintenance.
Provides technical support on HVACR and related mechanical system performance issues through use of TAB (testing/adjusting/balancing) techniques and control system analysis.
Performs a wide variety of skilled work in the installation, maintenance, and repair of heating, ventilating, air conditioning, refrigeration, and environmental control equipment (both electronic and pneumatic) and related systems.
- Heating includes, but is not limited to gas fired boilers, furnaces, and roof top equipment.
- Ventilating includes, but is not limited to make-up air systems, chemistry and kitchen hoods, or general exhausts.
- Air conditioning includes, but is not limited to direct expansion air conditioning units such as electric, unitary equipment, roof top units and chillers, steam absorption chillers with cooling towers, and associated equipment.
- Controls include, but are not limited to pneumatic and digital direct controls, up to 600 volts.
- Refrigeration includes, but is not limited to reach-in and walk-in coolers and freezers, ice machines, and soft service ice cream machines.
- Energy management systems include, but are not limited to Honeywell, Johnson, Trane, TSI and/or other vendors and related computer interfaces.
Performs routine maintenance and required repairs on steam traps and steam systems.
Responsible for adjustment and maintenance of HVAC controls and c computer interfaces in assigned buildings.
Maintains logs and records as necessary.
Maintains cleanliness of environmental systems, spaces, mechanical rooms, and equipment.
Operates power equipment, hand tools, and multiple electronic and analog meters.
Operates absorption and centrifugal chillers to maintain demand for cooling in satellite locations.
Operates and maintains cooling towers in satellite locations.
Performs preventative maintenance and lubricates related equipment.
Maintains telephone and radio contact with campus, outside vendors, and contractors as necessary.
Maintains a positive image with customers, vendors, and peers.
Performs other duties as assigned.
