Successful Swine Dining Pig Raffle Supports Compassionate Needs Fund

Congratulations to the lucky winners! Marita Hattem-Schiffman, president, MyMichigan Medical Center Alma, alongside Banks and Gibbs Grover, employee children, and Trisha Grover, specialist in quality management, helped make the Swine Dining Raffle drawing a memorable event.
MyMichigan Medical Center Alma employees, under the auspices of the MyMichigan Health Foundation, hosted the second annual Swine Dining Pig Ticket Raffle. This event supports the Gratiot County Fair for Youth and the Medical Center’s Compassionate Needs Fund. On August 20, 2025, winners were drawn, offering a chance to win half a processed pig for $10 per ticket. Jake Bahlke and Cathy McCune won, each receiving half a pig.
The initiative brought together community members for a cause that supports local youth programs and growing a fund that is dedicated to addressing the vital needs of patients and families that are not covered by insurance. This includes support for medical services, at-risk community member programs, and outreach such as pre-diabetes education, childbirth education, breastfeeding support, child infant CPR, and tobacco cessation counseling.
The raffle, which drew winning tickets on August 20, 2025, supports the health system’s Purpose in ‘Creating Healthy Communities - Together.’ Participants had a chance to win half a pig, with processing included, for only $10 per ticket, making a significant impact on the community.
Trisha Grover and Tammy Story, MyMichigan Medical Center Alma employees who spearheaded the event, could hardly contain their enthusiasm. “The outpouring of staff and community support has been astounding. It’s a testament to the power of coming together for a common good,” said Grover. “Knowing each ticket bought will help not only the 4-H programs but also our Compassionate Needs Fund is a win on all sides,” added Story.
Becky Church, director, MyMichigan Health Foundation, highlighted the impact of such fundraisers. “Every effort, every donation, no matter the size, contributes to a healthier community. The generosity shown through this raffle is a quintessential example of our Purpose in action – ‘Creating Healthy Communities - Together.’ As we celebrate the success of the Swine Dining Pig Ticket Raffle, we look forward to its continued inspiration and contribution to the annual Gratiot County Fair for Youth.”
