Safer Homes, Happy Families 2024

Safer Homes, Happy Families
Hey homeowners!
Let me guess – the joys of homeownership didn’t prepare you for the potential of lead on your property? The Lead Poisoning Prevention Fund offers personal loans for lead hazard reduction projects across the state of Michigan. The Lead Fund was designed for homeowners, landlords and property owners who do not meet eligibility for free local or state lead abatement services. The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services (MDHHS) has partnered with Michigan Saves, the nation’s first nonprofit green bank, to offer loans starting from $1,000 up to $50,000.
MDHHS launched a 50/50 cost sharing program to offer a more affordable path to abatement. The incentive covers half of total abatement costs and is only available to projects starting at $2,000 and maximum project cost of $100,000. Customers must be approved for a Lead Fund loan and cannot combine other MSAVES loans with the incentive program.
All customers are eligible to receive:
• Home Lead Inspections (valued at $1,200).
• Support from MDHHS staff in:
o Reviewing the findings and recommendations in inspection reports.
o Prioritizing identified lead hazards from most to least severe to aid in informed decision making.
• Fixed interest rate loans.
• 50/50 cost sharing incentive for lead hazard reduction activities.
