MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant is adding a state-of-the-art Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) machine, valued at $2.3 million. This significant addition reflects their commitment to expanding and enhancing services to meet the evolving needs of the community.

Individuals living in the greater Mt. Pleasant region now have access to the latest patient-friendly innovation in cutting-edge Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) technology. MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant recently added a $2.3M MRI with state-of-the-art technology that can produce highly detailed images for enhanced diagnostics and treatment. MRI services will begin in mid-February 2025. The newly installed Philips Ingenia Ambition 1.5T MR system is one of many projects as part of the health care center’s growth and expansion of services.

“In addition to ongoing renovations, we are very excited to unveil the latest in MRI technology that provides exceptional diagnostic and therapeutic guidance capabilities, and an improved patient experience,” said Marita Hattem-Schiffman, F.A.C.H.E., C.P.M.S.M., president, MyMichigan Medical Centers in Alma, Clare and Mt. Pleasant. “Through our reconfiguration of more than 10,000 square feet of existing space, we are expanding outpatient services, improving access to physician specialties, and strengthening our Medical Center to meet today’s needs and position us to evolve with future health care demands. We are committed to providing excellent care and keeping patients close to home while enhancing our 24/7 comprehensive health care services to residents throughout the region.”

MRI is one of the most advanced methods of diagnostic examinations available today and is commonly used to view the brain, spinal cord, bone and joints among other body parts. Often, individuals who require an MRI exam may have feelings of stress and discomfort. Now, with the added comfort of a wide bore, speed and uncompromised quality, the MRI will provide highly detailed images for enhanced diagnostics, making it easier for providers to identify and pinpoint medical concerns and reduces the number of repeat exams.

“An MRI does not use X-rays or radiation. Instead, it uses a magnetic field and radio waves to produce high quality images of the inside of your body,” said George Elliott, M.D., emergency medicine, MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant. “Powerful computers reassemble the MRI signal into a set of pictures that are reviewed by a physician. Having this advanced technology available in our central Michigan region ensures that providers and staff have access to the very best imaging equipment. And is more convenient for their patients.”

Serving Mt. Pleasant and Isabella County communities since 2000, the growth of MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant is in response to our community’s request for more high-quality health care services close to home.  In 2017, the Medical Center underwent a $32M expansion which added an ambulatory surgery center, emergency department, infusion center, additional physician specialty offices and more. The 2024-25 renovations will further enhance the facility and create space that continues to allow staff to care for patients in a modern environment that promotes health and healing. The renovations for MyMichigan Medical Center Mt. Pleasant are being managed by Three Rivers Corporation and expected to be fully complete by May 2025.
