The City of Mt. Pleasant is currently accepting applications for a part-time Crossing Guard position. Help ensure the safety of our community’s children by joining our team today!

Nature of Work
This position works under the administrative direction of the Youth Services Unit within the City of Mt. Pleasant Police Department. This is a highly responsible position that involves controlling vehicular and pedestrian traffic at strategic locations dictated by students traveling to and from school during assigned times on regular school days, approximately 2 hours per day. Assigned post location and work schedule will vary and be determined on an as-needed basis. Crossing Guards are compensated $18.00 per hour.

Duties include
Safely assisting school children in crossing busy intersections by halting vehicles through the use of mechanical signals and/or hand-held stop signs; maintaining order among children waiting to cross the street at designated crossing points; permitting street crossing only when safe to do so; reporting crosswalk-related traffic law violations to your immediate supervisor; and, instilling an awareness in school children of safety measures necessary for safe street crossing. 

Physical demands and work environment: Repetitive hand motions; must be able to push, pull, lift, and/or carry at least 10 lbs; exposure daily to possible adverse weather elements for extended periods of time. 
Crossing Guards work approximately 2 hours per day at a designated post. Must be 18 years of age or older.

Selection Process
