More than 50 community members came together on Tuesday, Nov. 11, for Aiming for Wellness: A Men’s Health Event, hosted by the MyMichigan Health Foundation in collaboration with Central Michigan University College of Medicine’s medical students. Held at Valhalla Indoor Axe Throwing in Mt. Pleasant, the event blended fun and education to promote men’s health and raise essential funds for the Men’s Health Fund at MyMichigan Health Foundation.

Attendees participated in axe throwing while engaging in meaningful conversations with experts on topics including rehabilitation, prostate cancer, trauma, and mental well-being. The relaxed atmosphere made it easy for guests to ask questions, learn practical health tips, and connect with local health advocates.

“We were thrilled to see such strong community engagement,” said Becky Church, director, MyMichigan Health Foundation. “More than 50 people joined us for an evening that was both fun and impactful. Thanks to their generosity, along with support from our sponsors, we raised meaningful funds to help uninsured or underinsured men access vital health services.”

The Men’s Health Fund at MyMichigan Health Foundation helps reduce financial barriers for men needing preventive screenings, follow-up care, or other essential health services. Funds raised at Aiming for Wellness will directly support these efforts.

“Events like this make it easier for men to take that first step toward better health,” said Tom Albrecht, men’s health advocate and event committee member. “We’re proud to spark conversations that encourage men to show up for themselves and for the people who count on them.”

In addition to hands-on axe throwing, participants appreciated the opportunity to learn from medical students and local health professionals who are passionate about improving men’s health outcomes in the region.

The Foundation expressed its gratitude to sponsors, attendees, and community partners who made this inaugural event a success. Plans are already underway to continue expanding men’s health outreach across the region.
