This workshop provides a brief overview of the science behind emotional intelligence theory that will allow participants to develop an effective level of emotional self-awareness. Emotional self-awareness is an essential tool for managing emotions and relating to others. Interactive exercises will afford attendees the opportunity to practice personal and social competencies that will ensure successful relationships in professional, social, and personal settings.

Dan Gaken is Coordinator of Leadership Development and head of the Leadership Institute at Central Michigan University. In addition to his duties in the Leadership Institute, Gaken serves as a Leadership Studies instructor, is the advisor for Habitat for Humanity, and sits on the Chapter Advisory Council for Sigma Alpha Epsilon, a social fraternity he helped found as an undergraduate student. He is the Michigan Association of Secondary School Principal’s Level III leadership curriculum director, and also facilitates sessions of the LeaderShape Institute around the nation for college students.
Gaken's first book, Leadership & Service: An Introduction, which he co-authored with Senator George McGovern and Dr. Donald Simmons, was published by Kendall/Hunt in 2008 and is available on Amazon.com.
