Position:  Estimator - Commercial Healthcare Construction

Primary Function:  Leads and is responsible for preparation of bids and proposals for healthcare projects.

  • Lead, collaborate, and manage all aspects of project bidding from start to finish.
  • Review bidding documents, including plans, specifications, bidding criteria, and conceptual information.
  • Invite bidders and engage subcontractors and suppliers into the bidding process as needed.
  • Prepare quantity take offs and obtain pricing for materials and anticipated labor.
  • Receive & analyze subcontractor and supplier proposals for scope and cost and applicability for the project.
  • Handle pre-bid questions that arise during the bidding process.  This includes fielding questions from sub-bidders, requesting clarification from architects/engineers, and distributing responses to affected contractors.
  • Conduct bid reviews with project team concisely and efficiently.
  • Meet project estimate deadlines.
  • Prepare conceptual budget proposal correspondence that accurately reflects the project scope and clearly defines clarifications and exclusions
  • Visit construction sites and observe methods of construction to gain insight for estimating process.
  • Maintain resource information on products, vendors, subcontractors, and lead times.
  • Maintain organized bid estimate folders.
  • Consistent on-site attendance is a requirement of the job.  Work from the main office.  Requires some travel within the State of Michigan, and remote field assignments are not anticipated.
Qualifications:
  • Understanding of construction industry practices/standards/ methods, operations, and contract management.
  • Understanding of different construction trades and their interactions on project scopes.
  • Knowledge of construction project safety practices, rules and regulations
  • Ability to respond promptly to customer needs and maintain confidentiality and discretion.
  • Ability to read and interpret written information.
  • Demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness.  Can monitor own work to ensure high quality, consistent, accurate work. 
  • Ability to prioritize work.  Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines at any given time.
  • Adapts to changes in the work environment, manages competing demands, and is able to deal with frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
  • Ability to work easily on conceptual estimates and competitive stipulated sum (hard bid) estimates, understanding the distinctions between the strategy requirements of each.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and presentation) and interpersonal skills.  Can communicate clearly and persuasively.
  • Competency in Microsoft Office Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, Microsoft Project or Primavera and ability to learn other software as needed.
Education and/or Experience:
B.S. degree in Construction Management or Engineering or related discipline
Demonstrated construction estimator experience (work equivalent)
3+ years of experience in the construction industry at a level that required extensive cost estimating work preferred.
