Additionally\, job descriptions are sometimes written so specifically that the person they seek doesn't exist. This is called "The Purple Squirrel" by HR recruiters.\n\n\n\nPresenter Mike Major posits that Purple Squirrels really do exist\, but it's learning how to leverage candidate sourcing resources effectively that will help employers find them. This session will teach employers and recruiters how to find their purple squirrel by thinking outside the box.\n\n\n\nPresented by Mike Major\, Career Services\, SVSU\n\nand Elaine Reinke\, HR Specialist\, Clare-Gladwin RESD\n\n \n\n\n \n \n Mike Major has over 10 years of experience helping organizations recruit talent. He holds professional certifications as both a Society for Human Resource Management Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) as well as a Senior Professional in Human Resources (SPHR). He has obtained three degrees from Saginaw Valley State University\, including a Bachelor of Arts with a French Major\, Master of Education in 2005 and Master of Arts in Communication and Multimedia in 2008. He is currently pursuing his Ph.D. at Wayne State University. \n\n \n\n He commissioned into the Navy Reserve as a Human Resources officer in 2008 and currently holds the rank of Lieutenant Commander. Mike was recalled to Active Duty from 2011-2012 for a deployment in Afghanistan as a Combat Advisor with the Afghan National Civil Order Police (ANCOP)\, where he earned the Bronze Star Medal for meritorious service and the Navy-Marine Corps Combat Action Ribbon for performance while under direct enemy fire.\n\n \n\n As the Director of Career Services at SVSU\, he has been instrumental in massive growth for the office. Improvements include creation of Online Tutorials for career preparation that were recognized by the National Association of Colleges and Employers as best practices\, development of specialized and industry-specific employment fairs\, and the implementation of a new Online Job Database that links SVSU students and alumni to local and national opportunities.\n \n \n \n \n\n Elaine Reinke has been in Human Resources for more than 25 years working in both for-profit and not-for-profit organizations to include\; municipal\, retail\, governmental\, human services\, insurance and education.\n\n \n\n Elaine has served on the Board of Directors for the Mid-Michigan Human Resource Association in numerous roles including Board President and Member Service Area Representative upon the merger with the Valley Society of Human Resources. Elaine has also served on the American Society of Employers Advisory Council\, United Way of Isabella and Gratiot Counties\, CMU's Employer Service Learning Committee\, Clare County Kiwanis\, Mid Michigan Community College Fall Festival\, and was instrumental in organizing the Harrison Women's Association and the Chamber of Commerce Welcome Committee. \n\n \n\n As an HR Professional Elaine has worked in labor law\, labor relations\, board policies\, employee compensation and benefits and retention and recruitment. Elaine is a graduate of MMCC and holds an HR Certification from the American Society of Employers and a Human Capital Strategist Certification from the Human Capital Institute. In the Fall of this year\, Elaine joined the Clare-Gladwin Regional Education Service District team working as the HR Specialist and Administrative Assistant to the Superintendent and Board of Education.
