Ride A Backwards Bicycle: Music, Poetry, and Brain Science
What is it like to lose something once natural, like making music, and how does one create new brain pathways to reclaim a voice?
CMU School of Music flute professor, Dr. Joanna White traveled this path and it led to her reserach on focal dystonia, a neurological movement disorder caused by the brain sending incorrect information to the muscles.
White will share this journey with her recital, Ride a Backwards Bicycle: Music, Poetry, and Brain Science. This performance will feature chamber music, poetry written by Joanna White (including a poem which was published in the Journal of Merican Medical Assocation) and an exploration of musician's focal dystonia.
